Blevins, named for Theodore Roosevelt Blevins, a long-time PSD educator and coach, opened in 1968. In 2005, T.R. Blevins was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for "gallantry in action;" during World War I. We are proud to house the Silver Star and strive to carry on the T.R. Blevins legacy.
Blevins strives to create a safe, relevant, and challenging learning environment where students, staff, and community collaborate to help all students achieve their highest potential.
As Blevins makes the transition to Middle School in 2009-2010, Blevins will adopt a Middle School philosophy focusing on teacher teaming, student advocacy, literacy and numeracy.
With our Normative Education Project, "It's All Good in the Neighborhood," Blevins endeavors to reflect the positive behaviors of students in our community (academic achievement, respect, and positive healthy lifestyle choices).
Discovery, an adult/student intervention protocol based on dignity and respect, is used consistently to help guide student/staff behavior.
Our alternating block schedule provides in-depth instructional time in academic classes, extended lab, and experiential learning.
Instructional & Enrichment Programs
Our students may take academically rigorous Pre-Advanced Placement classes in 7th and 8th grade. In addition, students may participate in the Blevins Student Leadership Team; Science Olympiad; Math Counts; science fair; art club; Silver & Burgundy Singers; beginning, intermediate and advanced bands; and beginning and intermediate orchestra.
With our emphasis on student achievement, Blevins has implemented Homework Help for any student who needs academic support.
Opportunities for Parents
Parents may serve on our Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO), sponsor fundraising and other activities to support Blevins student programs, and serve on the Blevins School Improvement Team to help guide school policy and decisions. The Parent Advisory Group meets throughout the year to give feedback to Blevins administration.
