Laurel opened in 1993 and retains the name of the original school on Laurel Street. At Laurel, we embrace diversity with a wide range of economic levels, cultures, interests, and abilities!
Laurel teaches the whole child-academically, socially, and emotionally. Our teachers are sensitive to multiple intelligences and tailor instruction to accommodate each student. We offer before- and after-school childcare through BASE Camp. As a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) school, character traits are taught using the Time to Teach school-wide discipline program, and our teacher-created "Livin' with Character" program. Character lessons are integrated into daily instruction, and quarterly character education assemblies celebrate successes and recognize student achievement.
Laurel educates the whole child through the infusion of arts and technology across the curriculum. This provides a culturally-rich learning environment where differences are supported and celebrated. Laurel offers an outstanding gifted education program. We offer all-day kindergarten and honor parent requests if half-day kindergarten is a better fit. Small literacy group instruction is offered K-5 to ensure success.
Instructional & Enrichment Programs
Students may participate in a weeklong Crow Canyon field trip to an archeological dig site-the only school in northern Colorado to offer this opportunity. Crow Canyon and Journey in Government (JIG) alternate and are offered every other year. JIG is a weeklong adventure to Washington, D.C. Our students enjoy participating in other enrichment opportunities: Odyssey of the Mind, curriculum fairs, Kids Care Club, choir, and Suzuki violin.
Opportunities for Parents
Our PTO sponsors many annual events geared to raise money for the school, support our teachers and build our community. These events, including our fall carnival and spring walk-a-thon, give parents many opportunities to get involved and get to know one another.
The School Improvement Team for Excellence (SITE) participates on various district committees, the District Advisory Board, and provides input on academic and safety goals, staffing, programs, and guidelines for Laurel.
