History and Culture
Tavelli Elementary School, named for PSD teacher Anna Tavelli, opened in 1968.
Tavelli Elementary is a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Math) focus school. Our goal is prepare our students to be 21St Century Learners. Our high-quality teaching staff and strong collaborative teams foster a learning environment rich in meaningful, real life and hands on activities. We are committed to a rigorous curriculum in literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, technology and the arts. Positive behavior (PBIS), health, nutrition and fitness are programs used to support academics. The school's goal is to create a life long love of learning.
Academics and Activities
Tavelli Elementary is committed to having each student make a year's growth or more annually by providing challenging curriculum and supportive interventions. A media center, two computer labs, Smart Boards, netbooks, Spark Lab and a nature center support learning goals, standards-driven curriculum, and activities.
The Gifted and Talented program provides enrichment for students needing the highest levels of support in grades K-5. Special education classes are also available. Dream Team, a unique before-school peer mentoring program, develops leadership skills in 5th graders and enhances reading, writing, and math skills for younger students. Odyssey of the Mind, chess club, science, musical theatre, Little Kids Rock, Lego Robotics, are just a few of the extracurricular clubs and programs are available for motivated learners.
