Johnson Elementary School opened in 1988 and was named in honor of Mary and Curtis Johnson, two lifelong Fort Collins educators.

Learning Culture
At Johnson, we believe in the worth and value of each child. Students and community members are recognized at our monthly Thunderbird Pride assemblies for modeling positive behaviors in the classroom, in the cafeteria and around the building.

Academic Environment
All grade levels enjoy long, uninterrupted blocks of time for literacy instruction. Additional literacy staffing allows us to provide more individualized time for instruction and guided practice.

Students enjoy a weekly rotation of "specials" classes including art, media and technology, music, counseling, and physical education. These programs allow students to explore their creative interests and participate in art shows, concerts, track meets, and honor choirs. Our PC lab is fully networked and equipped with many instructional programs and internet learning opportunities supporting classroom curriculum.

Fifth graders have their own wing of the building. They have lockers and rotate between classes in preparation for their transition to middle school.

Instructional & Enrichment Programs
Johnson hosts an English Language Acquisition program for second language learners. Students attend their regular classes and receive additional language instruction in small group settings.

Two programs, Resource and Moderate Needs, Affective, meet the needs of our special education students who attend regular classes. Students with special needs receive individual or small group instruction as needed.

Kindergarten students may attend morning half-day classes or tuition-based full-day classes.

Opportunities for Parents
Johnson's incredible parent organization shares thousands of hours each year helping our students and staff.
