Traut Core Knowledge School (TCKS) opened in September 1993 and is named in honor of Lena and Evelyn Traut, who taught in Poudre School District for a combined 82 years.

Learning Culture
Our learning culture is based on a content-rich curriculum built upon the Core Knowledge sequence. We believe that both skills and knowledge are important and that the best way to teach reading, writing, and thinking are in the context of a rich, knowledge-based curriculum.

Academic Environment
Twelve character traits incorporated into our classroom instruction are respect, responsibility, citizenship, self-control, honesty, patience, kindness, humility, integrity, perseverance, cooperation, and an appreciation of individual strengths and cultural backgrounds. These form our school's standards for behavior and relationships.

Our students are key partners in our educational goals, and they are the beneficiaries of the work done by their parents and teachers. Students are responsible for their words, actions, and learning and will achieve the desired standards as they fully accept that responsibility.

Literacy skills begin with teaching our students to read (primary literacy), using a phonics first approach, and advancing to reading to learn and for enjoyment (mature literacy).

Opportunities for Parents
At TCKS, our parents are fully involved in all aspects of the school, to the point of full partnership in the school's decision making and operation.
